Enter our Gr8 Art Competition

CALLING all young artists in the Leighton- Linslade area: Here’s a great opportunity to do some good for the environment, earn praise at your school as well as in the local community, AND win up to £250-worth of Argos vouchers.
Your challenge is to design an ‘energysaving’ poster in the town’s Gr8 Art Competition.

The Observer newspaper in conjunction with Grundfos Pumps are delighted to invite entries for this young people’s competition, both from schools and individuals.

We all know that we need to be more aware of the energy we use. This competition offers would be artists the chance to create an image that will demonstrate how people could
contribute towards decreasing CO2 emissions by being more environmentally aware.

The competition is open to all children and young people (who are under 19 on March 14, 2008) who submit an original piece of art of up to A3 size (420 x 297 mm – the same size as an LBO page), demonstrating any message that
they believe will encourage people to save energy. Suggestions could include, but are not limited to:
Turning off electrical equipment when
not in use.

Walking or cycling to school/work
instead of going by car.

Switching to energy saving light bulbs.

Wearing an extra jumper as opposed to
turning up the heating.

Recycling as much refuse as possible.

Saving water or using it wisely.

Choosing ‘A’ rated energy saving goods.

Each entry must be accompanied by a fully
completed official Entry Form, which you can cut out from the Leighton Buzzard Observer newspaper on Tuesday, 15th January, and we plan to reprint it two week’s from then.

Copies can also be obtained from The
Observer Offices, Butterworths Art Supplies, or from Grundfos Pumps in Grovebury Road.

Alternatively, forms can also be
downloaded by CLICKING HERE

Entries must arrive at the Leighton
Buzzard Observer Offices at 17 Bridge Street by 4pm on 14th March (please remember to write your name and age on the back of your entry).

Prizewinners will be notified by 11th April
and successful entrants will be asked to attend a prize giving ceremony at Grundfos Pumps at midday on Friday 25th April to receive their prize. Finalists can be accompanied by either a parent or other family member.

Andrew Selous MP, Member of Parliament for South West Bedfordshire, will present the awards.
There will be one runner-up and a winner
selected from each of the following categories:
Under 6;
age 7 to 10 years;
11 to 14 years;
15 to 18 years.

In each of these age groups the winner will receive a £50 Argos voucher and the runner up will get a £25 Butterworths voucher.

There will be an overall winner’s prize of
£250 Argos vouchers awarded along with a
commemorative plaque.
